Rachel Xi Zhang
Assistant Professor of Accounting
I am an assistant professor of Accounting at the National University of Singapore. I obtained my Ph.D. in Accounting from the Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania.
My primary interest lies in understanding how information is produced by and transmitted among key corporate stakeholders (e.g., between managers to shareholders, boards of directors and managers, and among capital providers). My research highlights 1) two-way information flow between managers to investors: managers disclosing financial and non-financial information to investors and managers learning from investors and 2) how divergent interests among key stakeholders give rise to the need for contracting arrangements to alleviate agency conflicts, and how information plays a key role in determining the nature of such conflicts and in designing mechanisms to mitigate them.
I am also interested in the reporting incentives of corporate ESG activities and their capital market consequences.
At NUS, I teach valuation at the undergraduate level.
